Find the cheapest gas in your area, and route around traffic with Waze

Waze is a handy free app with real-time traffic info provided by an incredible community of over 30 million drivers called "Wazers" a social media minded bunch who contribute live traffic updates to warn other Waze users about traffic jams, road accidents, speed traps and more.

The inclusion of a live traffic map makes Waze a must-have app for your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.  This latest version 3.5.1 offers:

  • Live routing and real-time traffic conditions updated from the Waze community
  • Voice-guided navigation - the app also remembers your routes and destinations
  • Automatically finds the best route depending on road conditions
  • Pick up your friends and share your trip (great for keeping an eye on the kids)

I don't know about you, but any app that helps me find cheap gas, and saves time, has earned a spot on my iPhone.  Waze combines the fun of social media, and the utility of a very useful traffic app. I only have one question: are we there yet?
Download Waze today.

Jawbone UP Fitness Wristband Tracks your Calories, Sleep and GPS Routes

Jawbone, the maker of those iconic bluetooth headsets is at it again with the new Jawbone UP fitness wristband and the free UP by Jawbone App.  This new fitness bracelet has a sleek futuristic look to it, and comes in a variety of dazzling colors to fit any taste.

The UP features a built-in accelerometer which collects data about your activities, the food you eat, and even your sleep patterns (yes this is a 24-hour-a-day health monitor) which  helps you set, and keep, fitness goals.

You are what you eat

A unique feature of the Jawbone UP app is the ability to log your meals - simply take a quick photo of your dish, and respond to questions about how you feel after eating; this creates a journal which can help you to plan a healthier diet (for instance, if you logged meals containing way too many donuts, soda, and cookies;  you would notice because there's now an "App for that") this may be one of the killer features of  the Jawbone Up.

Work it out

Yes, you can work out with it  The Jawbone Up is sweat-proof, and water-resistant meaning no fears in strapping it on for your next workout, or run.  The precision motion sensor tracks all of your activity and even includes a vibration alert if you sit for too long to prompt you to get up and move.  We have all been guilty of spending too much time in front of the computer; and now Jawbone will give you an excuse to increase physical activity, and burn a few more calories.

Asleep and awake, 24/7

With up to 10 days of battery life, and just 80 minutes to fully charge; the Jawbone Up is designed to be worn 24/7, the app also tracks your sleep time - light sleep vs deep sleep, and sleep quality.  The Jawbone Up app also includes a smart wakeup alarm which allow you to program your wristband to vibrate, and wake you up at just the right moment - no more being late to work because you forgot to set the alarm!

The Jawbone UP includes:
  • Jawbone UP wristband (comes in small, medium and large)
  • USB charging cable and user guide
  • Built-in rechargeable Li-ion polymer battery
  • USB to 3.5mm adapter for charging 5v 550mA max 2.5W

Works with iPhone 3GS - iPhone 4S, iPod Touch, iPad, and iPad 2 (requires iOS 4.1 or later) the Jawbone UP is $99 at the Jawbone Online Store

Apple iPhone Tracking - Anything to Worry About?

from hbakkh
Everyone's heard about the recent Apple iPhone Tracking story by now, but is there anything to worry about? Or is it all much ado about nothing? I'll vote for the latter. Every major Smartphone maker needs to know your general area in order to offer location-based services. Ever use Google Maps? They need data on where you are in order for you to get your bearings, and GPS devices need that information as well.

Many other services (im looking at you Foursquare) also use your location for their services, so this is really no different than what every other Smartphone (Android included) does. If you want location-based services; they require your  location.

If im going to trust any company with my data; i'll trust Apple. If there's any issue, it will be sorted out. However I know there are too many awesome Smartphone Apps in the App Store that I plan on downloading to add even more functionality to my iPhone to be concerned about this; There is nothing to see here folks, moving right along... Now where is my white iPhone?
